Ommatidia’s Laser RADAR for Structural Health Monitoring

by | Feb 10, 2023 | News

Ommatidia’s Q1S technology is playing a vital role in ensuring the safety of civil constructions. In the particular case of our customer ADIF, Ommatidia has installed four Q1S units on a train bridge in the high-speed line connecting Madrid and Málaga. These systems, which are specifically designed for structural health monitoring, are connected to an advanced digital twin of the construction that alerts about potential problems ahead of time and allow to program preventive maintenance activities.

The Q1S is capable of providing non-contact measurements of local sub-mm deflections at 128 points on the bridge deck simultaneously for a period of five years. This product is also designed to measure the vibrations that the bridge suffers at the same points, providing a comprehensive and unique perspective of the bridge’s overall health.  This information will support a digital twin model, which will be used for predictive maintenance. By using this technology, ADIF will be able to proactively identify potential issues and take the necessary steps to address them before they lead to more significant problems.

This is a good example of how Ommatidia’s Q1S can be an invaluable tool to ensure the safety of civil constructions. Ready for reliable long-term outdoor operation, easy to install, with IP65 rating and cost-effective, our Q1S is set to transform the landscape of preventive maintenance.

For those fortunate enough to attend the Resonance Conference, visiting Ommatidia LiDAR’s booth at SURVISHNO 2023 was a highlight. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with the team of experts from Ommatidia, exchanging ideas, exploring potential collaborations, and gaining deeper insights into the intricate workings of the Q1 solution. The interactions sparked conversations that could potentially shape the future of LiDAR technology..
