Driving Innovation in Autonomous Mobility: Ommatidia LiDAR Launches 3DAD with CDTI Support

10 November 2022

Ommatidia LiDAR is moving fast in the race for autonomous mobility with the launch of its new project, 3DAD. At the heart of this effort is the company’s core innovation: parallel 3D LiDAR technology. Supported by Spain’s Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), the project marks a major step forward in applying this unique technology to real-world automotive use.

From Industrial Metrology to the Road

Ommatidia has already proven its technology in high-precision environments, including industrial metrology and aerospace. With 3DAD, the company will adapt its existing system—already at TRL6—to meet the needs of autonomous driving at TRL8. CDTI’s funding makes it possible to accelerate this transition and develop two versions of the product: one for mid-level autonomous systems (ADAS3) and another for high-level systems (ADAS4–5).

Importantly, this project builds on a strong foundation of excellence. Ommatidia LiDAR previously earned the “Sello de Excelencia 2021” from the European Commission, which recognized the high quality and potential impact of its technological solutions.

Real-World Validation with Industry Leaders

To ensure practical impact, Ommatidia will carry out pilot projects with major automotive companies. The ADAS3 version will go through full certification, while the more advanced version will be tested with real users for performance and integration. Certification for this second version will follow in a later phase.

What Makes Parallel 3D LiDAR Technology Unique

Unlike traditional systems, parallel 3D LiDAR technology from Ommatidia captures full 3D scenes instantly. There are no moving parts. The system uses a solid-state, bio-inspired design that improves range, resolution, and safety. It works reliably even in bad weather and delivers faster, richer data—perfect for autonomous vehicles.

Scaling Up with CDTI Support

Thanks to CDTI’s backing, Ommatidia can now scale this technology for mass production. The funding helps turn innovation into ready-to-use solutions for the automotive market. In addition, the same technology offers future applications in robotics, drones, and smart industry.

A Clear Path Toward Leadership

Through 3DAD and its strong partnership with CDTI, Ommatidia LiDAR is setting the foundation for global leadership in parallel 3D LiDAR technology. The company is not only shaping the future of autonomous vehicles—it’s redefining how machines see and move.
