Ommatidia at XCON 2025: Multi-Beam Vibrometry for Nonlinear Dynamics

Last week, Ommatidia LiDAR proudly sponsored and exhibited at the 1st International Conference on Experimental Continuation in Nonlinear Dynamics (XCON 2025). The event took place at the University of Liège and brought together experts in nonlinear structural dynamics.

At XCON, our team showed how the Q2 Laser RADAR helps researchers test nonlinear systems with more precision and speed.

A New Lens on Nonlinear Dynamics

Studying nonlinear vibrations is a challenge. Systems can show complex behavior that changes quickly. Traditional single-point sensors often cannot keep up.

The Q2 offers a new way:

  • 65+ laser beams in parallel provide full-field vibrometry in one shot.

  • Non-contact interferometric sensing avoids errors caused by attaching sensors.

  • Real-time Doppler vibrometry captures system dynamics as they happen.

This allows researchers to perform response-controlled testing, bifurcation tracking, and branch exploration more reliably.

Latest Product Enhancements

During the live demo booth, attendees tested the Q2 with its latest features:
SpeckleGuard: more robust against speckle noise.
SpeedSync: accurate high-speed synchronization across large structures.
DOLL: stable multi-beam operation during nonlinear experiments.

These upgrades support adaptive testing strategies that rely on live vibration data. As a result, researchers can push beyond the limits of conventional methods.

Building Bridges Between Academia and Industry

XCON also showed how academic research and industrial needs connect. The Q2 helps both groups by bringing photonics into structural dynamics. It speeds up discovery in labs and improves design validation in industry.

We thank Prof. Gaetan Kerschen and the organizing committee for inviting us. We also thank everyone who joined our talk and visited our booth.
